Melanie A. Miles
Vice President and COO

Melanie's role as Vice President and COO sees her wearing many different hats. First and foremost, she manages the business on a day-to-day basis, keeping the office staff focused on priority client issues. She coordinates the Outplacement Services portion of the business, submitting proposals, coordinating schedules with incoming participants and the cadre of consultants, and ensures a smooth and hospitable experience for all participants moving through the rigors of a career transition. Falling back on her initial career activities as dietitian, chef and baker, Melanie also prepares meals for the many working lunches at the Glenfiddich House.

Prior to the purchase of the business with husband David in 1992, Melanie had completed a five-year career with USAA Insurance in Reston, Virginia. During this period, she received numerous promotions and completed many internal developmental programs, creating for herself an impressive track record. She also received her National AIC (Associate in Claims) certification while with USAA Insurance.

A key function performed was dealing with insureds, many senior military personnel, both active duty and retired, who had suffered significant losses. In addition to working with property and casualty losses, she participated in multiple on-site disaster relief teams, such as those formed after Hurricane Andrew. These assignments required assisting those who not only suffered major property losses, but also who experienced high levels of personal stress from mass destruction and personal losses.

Melanie also brings a background of successful entrepreneurial skills as owner, operator and manager of three wholesale/retail bakeries in Northern California. She and David relocated to Great Falls, Virginia from California, necessitated by the corporate merger of the Saga and Marriott Corporations in 1987.

She has held numerous hospitality industry management positions in her career as Dietitian and operations manager in the health care industry with the Delaware State Health Care Services as well as with the ARA and Saga Corporations.

Melanie graduated from Immaculata College, Immaculata, PA, with a BS in Dietetics, earning the College Award for the highest department average at the school. She is a member of the Kappa Omicron Nu honor society. In addition, she has served on numerous committees and was a member of the Alumni Board.

Her many local and civic interests include: Friends of Loudoun Museum, a current member of the Society for Human Resource Management, and a founding sponsor of the Greater Leesburg and Loudoun Chapter. She is also a current member of Loudoun County Chambers of Commerce. Closer to home, she is an active member and current Treasurer of the Leesburg Downtown Business Association that honored her in June 2007 with a Certificate of Appreciation for her outstanding contributions to and support of Leesburg’s businesses. Melanie is also a strong supporter of the Leesburg Historic District Residents Association with whom she actively engages to preserve the historic charm and elegance of 18th and 19th century Leesburg. She is a member of the Loudoun County Medical Reserve Corps, an advocate and mentor of Penn State University’s Women’s Leadership Initiative, and the principle coordinator of Miles LeHane Companies’ Women’s Forum.
