John D. McCain
Consultant
In the fall of 2000, John McCain began a new phase in his expansive career as a senior consultant with a full service executive search, human resources, business, marketing and diversity consulting firm that works with Fortune 500 companies domestically and internationally. The firm specializes in financial services, telecommunications, pharmaceutical, high tech, start-ups, defense and consumer industries.
John is a proven leader in strategic planning, marketing, sales, operations, quality and productivity improvement, expense reduction and consolidation. He has had many successes in developing human resources strategies that support short- and long-term corporate plans.
Prior to beginning his independent consultancy, John was Senior Vice President & Global Managing Director of Human Resources for Citigroup Global Investment Management and Private Banking Sector. He managed over 150 professionals in compensation, benefits, organizational development, staffing, employee relations, and training for a 14,000 employee major business sector within Citigroup. Citigroup has offices in 51 countries around the globe with $380 Billion of assets under management.
Some of John’s many experiences include heading up corporate human resources for the Baptist Health System, Inc., in Jacksonville, Florida. As Corporate Vice President/Human Resources at Baptist Health System, John re-engineered the human resources department, increasing speed of decision making by empowering team members. He also championed marketing efforts through community involvement within highly visible and key community leadership roles.
As Vice President of Human Resources for Bristol-Myers Squibb, Inc.’s Xomed-Treace Division in Jacksonville, Florida, John re-energized the Total Quality Management program. He also led a cross-functional team that developed, piloted, and implemented delayering and broad banding the domestic and international workforce. John was also instrumental in developing and implementing self-directed work teams in manufacturing, research, and development.
As Director of Human Resources at Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Clairol Division in New York City, John re-engineered consumer and professional products national sales and marketing organizations. This resulted in an increase in sales, reduction of sales costs, reduction in the workforce, and an increase in call coverage of key accounts. He also led a business team in the divestiture of two consumer products business units and led the integration of an entrepreneurial venture into core business lines. John developed the first “family friendly” work environment, piloted and implemented two years before the Family and Medical Leave Act.
Earlier in his career, he held various human resources positions at Johnson & Johnson Company in New Brunswick, New Jersey and Xerox Corporation in Rochester, New York.
John received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1979 from West Virginia University. He then earned his Master of Science in Industrial Relations in 1980 from West Virginia University.
