Another year has just about ended—and what
a year it has been! Continued recovery from 9-11, a war on terrorism,
an economic roller coaster, and more recently, November’s
loud statements made all over the country following the mid-term
elections.
With
all this turmoil, Miles LeHane has continued to grow and adjust
to the changing climate to better serve our clients’ needs.
All of our core programs are alive and well and are being adapted
easily as our clients’ needs shift from our historical point
of view. To better serve our clients, we opened two new offices
(Rockville and Frederick, Maryland) and developed an affiliative
relationship enabling our use of three more offices in the Washington-Baltimore
corridor (Hunt Valley, MD, Annapolis, MD and Fairfax, VA)
We have begun a major push to offer cost-effective
on-line products to help our business friends—training programs
on Sexual Harassment Prevention and the Prevention of Workplace
Violence; positioning a growing number of assessments that we have
used in our office settings, but that now are accessible on-line—most
notably the Myers-Briggs (MBTI), DiSC and FIRO B. We will be providing
details on our website (www.mileslehane.com)
and via our quarterly newsletter. Heading up this on-line sales
effort is Michael Miles, who moved from client support services
to his new position as Director of Product Sales and Marketing.
Mike has also announced his wedding date to Laura
Egan, which is set for August 9, 2003. The couple will be married
aboard a cruise ship in the Caribbean. Scott Miles, meanwhile, continues
to develop new sales in the Washington Metro area, reactivating
some previous corporate clients and adding several new ones to our
“family.” Way to go Mike and Scott!!
Perhaps the biggest news—at least for the
Miles family—is that David finally completed his doctorate
and now enjoys the new title—not that anyone here reacts any
differently. His dissertation, How Successful Executives Respond:
A Phenomenological Study of Unplanned Career Transition, was
defended in August. Dr. Miles is much more relaxed now that the
12-year odyssey is over. We are all happy for David for this achievement.

With
our changing market, our internal support staff has had to make
adjustments as well. For instance, Wendy Drury handles all matters
of scheduling, billing and progress reports pertaining to Spherion
and Lincolnshire. Barbara Paulus handles all the candidate assessments
as well as a large portion of the progress reports. Dave Ulrich
works directly with both the candidates and their consultants on
developing resumes, as well as providing support to the growing
number of workshops being developed by Doug Price.
New to the Miles LeHane staff in 2002 has been John
Gregg, who came on board in January, bringing with him over 20 years
in career counseling both in corporate environments and in private
practice. In addition to generating new accounts and counseling,
John manages both the Frederick and Rockville, Maryland offices
that opened this year.
We cannot end this holiday note without extending
our sincerest appreciation to our exceptional corps of consultants,
without whom we could not offer the levels of human resources management
consulting that our candidates enjoy. Yes, Bob Berger still works
with our participants, but carries a lighter load!
As the year draws to a close, we wish to send the
best of holiday greetings to all our friends and associates around
the world, and hope that 2003 will be a successful year for you
and bring peace worldwide.
With warm holiday regards,
