Cornerstone
Begins to Take Hold
In
the first quarter of the year, we sent out two mailings,
the first describing the status of the career management/
outplacement industry, the second an announcement of how
Miles LeHane was responding to those changes…in short
a combining of our company with New Options Group to form
Cornerstone HR Consulting. The plan was to merge the experience
and expertise of these two companies covering the Washington-Baltimore
corridor to enable a much greater synergy than either could
do alone. The first real test of this synergy came with
the smooth execution of the Verizon management project mentioned
elsewhere in this newsletter. By combining the critical
mass and the many years of consulting experience, the new
Cornerstone will be able to broaden its covered services
and bring the same outstanding levels of expertise to a
growing market, not only in the outplacement arena, but
in the ever-growing need for executive coaching services,
HR consulting and distribution of online HR supporting products.
We will continue to tell you more about Cornerstone and
our expanded service offerings in our future newsletters.
Executive
Coaching Becomes a Central Focus
When
asked what Miles LeHane does, many people immediately mention
the outplacement activities around which our company was
begun. But we are equally able to provide outstanding Executive
Coaching for companies who are in a new growth or realignment
mode. Capture the Baby Boomer numbers in middle and senior
management in the business community and it becomes clear
immediately that there are many, many positions that will
have to be refilled in the foreseeable future as these Boomers
retire. Helping an organization with its succession planning,
sorting out who will be in that next group of company leaders,
helping rising stars prepare for that next big assignment
– Executive Coaching can help an organization work
through this difficult preparation period and strengthen
its bedrock position.
Online
Training Modules
Businesses
are always guarding against episodes of sexual harassment
and violence in the workplace. Not only is it very disruptive
to the flow of the business, it can carry serious monetary
penalties not only for the perpetrators, but also the companies
who employ them. Miles LeHane can provide your company with
cost-effective online modules on each of these subjects.
When completed, the successful test results can stand as
certification of awareness training and help mitigate heavy
fines. These 12-minute modules are easy to administer. Give
us a call to get more information and to arrange for a demonstration.
Women’s
Forum Hosts a Bodacious! Session
Glenfiddich
became host to a Bodacious! afternoon on April
28, when the 5th Women’s Forum series event presented
Mary Foley, nationally recognized thought leader for women
in business. Mary shared strategies for career and personal
success. In her empowering message, Mary shared these 10
ways to achieve a Bodacious! style.
1.
Don’t take it personally
2. Create deliberate relationships
3. Take the work out of networking
4. Actively market your value
5. Know how you want to be treated
6. Take a stand
7. Thrive on shift and change
8. Know your worth
9. Embrace office politics
10. Think strategically, act bodaciously
And
for those who may not know, Bodacious! =
Bold + audacious + courageous.
Completion
of The Stables Nears
Through
the winter and into the spring, we have been witness to
the construction of The Stables, the 4-car garage and home
office expansion on the back lot at the Glenfiddich House.
This building mirrors The Carriage House in appearance,
using the same brick and stucco façade on the outside
adorned with similar porch and balcony at each end of the
building. David Miles has long wanted to collect cars. Now
with this spacious garage, he will have a place to house
and admire them. Construction completion is targeted for
June 15, 2004.

Verizon
Management Outplacement Program a Huge Success
You
may recall reading about the large management downsizing activity
announced by Verizon during the last quarter of 2003. All
non-union employees were given the opportunity to take an
early out, or early retirement in the attempt to bring the
size of the supervisory and professional staff to a more manageable
size. As a Global Partner to Spherion Human Capital Consulting
that had the national account to manage this program for Verizon,
Miles LeHane had the privilege to work with all the Verizon
candidates in the Washington-Baltimore corridor. Over 10%
of all those participating from Verizon in career services
nationwide came through our program at one of our 8 offices
and worked one on one with Miles LeHane career management
and resume counselors to prepare themselves and their personal
credentials for their next career move. So pleased were Verizon
and Spherion with the steadfast support from Miles LeHane
that the “2003 Legendary Service Award” was presented
to David and Melanie Miles by Spherion.
Who’s
New?
We
are pleased to announce the addition to our staff of Jamie
Kapalka, a high school junior in Leesburg, who will help out
in the administrative area, lending a hand in covering phones
and processing the piles of paper that our business generates.
Jamie is active in debate and drama in school, and hopes to
become a lawyer after college.
